Gab And Jam Episode 55 Competition Vs Community In The Music Business Podcast

from Gab and Jam · host Prejippie Music Group, Inc.

Gab & Jam Episode 55 Community Vs. Competition Video Description In this episode, we discuss why there seems to be a stronger tendency for musical artists to compete with each other than to work together. (If you prefer to listen to the podcast, click here: ) The traditional notion of folks vying for a spot at the table or for that one record deal was what we had grown accustomed to experiencing. Folks didn’t share resources and strategies, because they feared that you might advance further than them. There were exceptions, like the Detroit techno community and other small similar blips on the musical scene (like rap groups, etc.), but in general, this was not the norm. In fact, each of the musical friends that we have from way back when work individually to try to make their dreams a reality. And because being successful selling your music is a pretty mysterious process and is NOT the type of business that you can just follow a roadmap and assure yourself of success, it is even MORE important to come together and lift each other up. On the flip side, once we started blogging, I found that, as an industry, the natural culture is supportive and encouraging, and where folks freely share processes and tips with people to help them grow. It has been our mission to allow that feeling of community to infuse our practices, so that we help others in any way we can. The more we learn, the more we share with our community. What can you do? Share a resources with a friend, join a group, share with someone who is coming along behind you. And if you’d like to partner up with us, please join our Facebook Group, Be the Next D.I.Y.
