Episode Description
The health of Gabonese President Ali Bongo continues to be a matter of concern for the Gabonese citizens after almost three weeks of his absence. Bongo was hospitalized in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia last month where he was attending the Future Investment Initiative conference. Following his admission, the government had claimed Bongo was only under observation due to severe fatigue while reports suggested that Bongo had suffered a stroke instead. Bongo took over when his father, Omar Bongo, died in 2009 after nearly 42 years at the helm.
For more on Bongo's absence and whether it could result in a power struggle in the Oil -rich West african nation, Channel Africa spoke to Professor Douglas Yates, Gabon expert at the American Graduate School in Paris France.
