Galatians 2:1-10 Defending the Gospel

Jesus gave a parable of the wheat and tares in Matthew 13:24-30. What we learn from that parable is that wherever the seed of God’s truth is sown, Satan will also be there to sow his seeds of lies. In the Book of Acts chapter 20, we find that Paul warns them to be on guard against wolves who want to come in and kill the flock. Paul claims that these wolves will say perverse things and draw people away from the truth. If you have ever heard of a wolf in sheep’s clothing, this is where it comes from. Paul instructs Timothy that people will fall away from the faith and go after deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons. Paul does not say that these wolves have it mostly right except for a few things… he calls it doctrines of demons. Let that sink in. This is not to be taken lightly. Read 1 Timothy 4:1-2. Paul the Apostle was always fighting this—or so it would seem. False teachers would come in after Paul and attack his apostleship, and in doing so would attack the gospel which he preached. The idea was that he could not possibly be a real Apostle like the Lord’s twelve. They accused him of preaching something different than Peter and the others who were in Jerusalem. What we find here in the second chapter of Galatians is Paul’s account of a trip to Jerusalem where a council was called to proclaim what the gospel truly is.
