Game of Thrones S04E09 — The Watchers on the Wall

A wildling army a hundred thousand strong reaches Castle Black, and the Night's Watch defends the only fortified gate in a 700-mile ice wall on two fronts at once. Mance Rayder's main host pours from the trees with giants and mammoths while Tormund, Styr, and Ygritte hit the south gate from behind. Thorne goes down to lead the courtyard and is wounded; Janos Slynt panics and Grenn bluffs him off the Wall; Pyp dies with an arrow through his neck; Grenn and five brothers recite the Watch oath and die holding the inner gate against a giant. Jon's logic for the suicide walk is the strategic spine going forward — Mance is the only thing binding a hundred tribes into an army, so killing him fragments the threat.
