Garcia Out Due to Hand Strain

Maikel Garcia, KC’s All-Star third baseman, is headed to the injured list with a bizarre left-hand strain that flares only during swings—making contact pain-free but awkward swings or fouls the culprit. Despite playing shortstop and going 2-for-4 with a double and solid defense recently, the Royals pulled the plug after a week of treatment and rest. Now sidelined, Garcia joins a growing list of Royals injured, including Pasquantino, Isbel, and others. The team hoped rest would help, but the decision was made Tuesday. Veteran infielder Josh Rojas is called up to fill the void. Garcia admits playing at 70% is brutal—this time, he gets to heal properly.
