Gareth's Story

Gareth, 26, from West Lancashire wanted to become a teacher in the North West, where schools desperately need educators. But HM Treasury's spending rules forced the Department for Education to slash teacher training bursaries for subjects with critical shortages, treating central government funding as though ministers must first find the money they create. The classrooms were ready, qualified graduates were eager to teach, but Westminster chose not to connect them.
