Gary Thorne, the face of hockey play-by-play on ESPN, joined the Cam and Strick Podcast. Talking to us from beautiful Santa Barbara, California, a few things were obvious. One he still has unreal pipes that can crush any broadcast, and two, cell phone signals in this part of Cali absolutely suck. Still, it was a pleasure to go down memory lane with Thorne. If you're 30 years old and up, you know how talented this guy is and the fact he was behind the mic for some of the most memorable calls in hockey history. Thorne has primarily broadcast major league baseball since ESPN last covered the NHL back in 2004. But now he wants back in.
