Why Proper Griddle Setup Matters Choosing the Right Location  Find an area that is protected from wind whenever possible. Wind can create uneven heating, increase fuel consumption, and make temperature control difficult. Consider using natural windbreaks or positioning your griddle near a sheltered area. Leveling Your Griddle for Consistent Cooking A level cooking surface helps grease flow properly and prevents food from sliding. Use inexpensive rubber shims from your local hardware store to adjust uneven surfaces. Check the level before every cook, especially when cooking on patios, driveways, or campsites. The Best Way to Season a New Griddle or Cast Iron Surface Why Seasoning Is Important Creates a natural non-stick cooking surface. Protects the griddle from rust and corrosion. Improves cooking performance over time. Seasoning with Bacon Up Bacon Grease Clean the griddle according to manufacturer recommendations before first use. Apply a thin, even layer of Bacon Up Bacon Grease across the entire cooking surface. Heat the griddle until the grease begins to smoke lightly. Allow the layer to bond to the metal. Repeat several times to build a durable seasoning layer. Common Seasoning Mistakes to Avoid Applying too much grease at one time. Skipping multiple seasoning layers. Cooking acidic foods immediately after initial seasoning. Cooking Bacon the Right Way on a Gas Griddle Start with a Cool Griddle Place bacon strips on a cool griddle before turning on the heat. Gradually heating bacon helps reduce curling. The bacon cooks more evenly and develops better texture. Additional Gas Griddle Tips & Tricks  Clean with Water Only Avoid harsh chemicals and soaps that can damage seasoning. While the griddle is still warm, add a small amount of water. Use a scraper to loosen food residue. Wipe clean with paper towels or a cloth. Monitor Grease Flow  Ensure grease drains properly toward the collection area. Recheck griddle level if grease begins pooling unexpectedly. Maintain Your Seasoning Regularly Add thin maintenance coats of oil or Bacon Up Bacon Grease as needed. Consistent care improves non-stick performance and flavor over time. Jet Ski Angler Reels Fights Off Shark, Reels In Tuna New Zealand Jet Ski Angler Lands Giant Tuna After Shark Encounter According to Outdoor Life, a New Zealand fisherman is celebrating an extraordinary catch after battling a massive bluefin tuna — and a hungry shark — from the seat of his jet ski. Matt Ringot was fishing off of a New Zealand bay on June 19 when he hooked a bluefin tuna weighing more than 220 pounds. What followed was a 90-minute struggle as the powerful fish towed his Sea-Doo through increasingly rough seas. Ringot says he brought the tuna alongside his jet ski several times, only to watch it dive back into deep water. Then, a mako shark joined the fight. The shark bit into the tuna and tore off its tail, a move anglers sometimes refer to as being taxed by a predator. While the damage reduced the size of the catch, Ringot says it also made the tuna easier to control. But the shark wasn't finished. After Ringot finally brought the fish to the surface, the mako returned and briefly fought over the tuna before swimming away. The shark continued circling as Ringot and his fishing partner, Brady Smith, tried to haul the oversized fish aboard. That proved impossible. The tuna was simply too large for the jet ski. The pair radioed for assistance, and two nearby fishing boats responded. With their help, the anglers finally secured the giant tuna and brought the remarkable catch in. Ringot later shared video highlights of the adventure on his YouTube channel, showing the long battle with the fish, the shark encounter, and the arrival of the boats that helped save the day. He says there was no way he could have landed the tuna alone, calling it one of the most memorable fishing experiences of his life.
