Gas Leak
from Socially Numb · host Richie Leahey
Welcome to the very first episode of the Socially Numb podcast! I am your host, Richie Leahey. With my background in computer science and the tech industry, I’m constantly tracking how cutting-edge trends and digital shifts impact our daily professional lives. This podcast is where I’ll be diving into everything from breaking tech news and social media trends to music and movies. For our debut, we’re hitting on a major issue that hasn’t received nearly enough national coverage: the gas crisis currently gripping the Southeastern United States. A significant pipeline leak in Alabama has forced a shutdown of the main line carrying fuel from Texas to the East Coast. We’re already feeling the effects here in Raleigh, with gas stations running dry and the Governor declaring a state of emergency to prevent price gouging. The most interesting part of this situation is how the news broke. I didn't see the initial alerts on the local or national news but I saw them from neighbors on social media. This is a prime example of why staying connected digitally is vital. It provided the head start I needed to prepare for my commute before the pumps ran out. The fix won't be instant, as crews are working on a diversion to bypass the leak. Going forward, I’ll be here every week to help you make sense of these trends so you can stay ahead of the curve. Thanks for listening, and I’ll see you next week!
