GBW #58: Land Shark (Tremors / Blood Beach / Blades)

Hello, and welcome to another episode of The Good, The Bad, and The What!? The show in which we discuss three films that we have deemed "good," "bad," or "what!?" within a subgenre, theme, motif, director or actor's filmography, and more! This week, to coincide with the 4th of July holiday in the States (despite our lack of Patriotism at the moment given the *gestures broadly at everything*), Chris and Ryan return to the world of "Jaws" knock-offs, only this time, ones in which the threat is not by sea, but by land. We start with 1990's comedic creature-feature "Tremors," a perfect horror-comedy that effortlessly blends its genres and is a high watermark in practical effects. Then, we move into a film that's not a high watermark in anything with 1980's "Blood Beach," a dull, industrial film-looking slog that sees the late, great John Saxon monologuing (and likely improvising) to fill the runtime, and as much as he's giving it, even he can't move mountains. Finally, we move into a discussion about 1989's "Blades," a top-tier Troma effort that perfectly executes the "Jaws" plot beats with a complete straight face... only with the silly premise of it being a killer lawnmower on a golf course instead of a shark.  You can find this and future episodes on our website thegoodbadwhat.com.
