I thought I wanted to do something a little bit, but we'll play that was it Hi, welcome welcome to the Daily Grateful my name is Michael Gross, and I You know I want to talk about today. You know what I want to talk about today. My son Zachary Dalton.
We can't see Gross 31 years old cool guy Anyway Anyway, he had a guy from across the street. We call Mikey over tonight and Adriana Zach and Mikey were Doing something that I want to talk about first of all. Let me just say this about that the digital lifestyle. All right, I Learned about computers as an adult, and I got my first Commodore 64, and then I got an IBM Actually, I got an IBM compatible computer and in the middle of that I got an Atari ST, which was like a really cool computer, but I came and I adjusted myself to technology That's what I did I adjusted myself the technology and then as I started having children And especially the sack my youngest he grew up with technology In fact, most of our kids have just grown.
It's always been a part of their lives. You know always had a computer I always had you know back in the day and iPod I remember my daughter having an iPod and loving it. You know, she she had her I and you know she was very protective of her iPod and All of this technology and I said, you know this generation is coming up on technology and they all have it I'll have cell phones and I've got an iPhone all my kids have iPhones except chain. He's got an Android the Jamie likes to be different, but everybody's you know, it's just the way it is now and And and I got to take that back.
Kyle's got an Android also. He likes the one he has and But everybody's you know technology technology technology, but guess what Zack and Adrian are doing in the dining room They're going back to analog You know Gen Z in the millennials. They all grew up online But many are exhausted by I They're just totally exhausted by the whole thing. So they're out there.
They're doing puzzles You know how much more analog can you get when my user they were playing a card game in the living room I walk out there and they're all playing a card game all of it analog and then I let's take my daughter who is 38 years old Grew up with technology. It was always part of her life always part of her life But you know what her favorite thing is VHS tapes She's got a big collection of VHS tapes and sitting on the floor here in over at that closet is a VHS tape player That is hers, but she left it here just several she every time she would go to a yard sale She'd find one of these things and she'd buy it and stash it because she always wanted to know that she had a place to play her VHS tapes And her kids grew up her children are growing up right now. They're not watching DVDs. They're they're not I don't think she subscribes to any thing on online as far as Streaming is concerned.
They're all watching VHS tapes that she's had since she was a kid and continues to collect So I think that's pretty darn cool and well, you know digital burnout. It's real. You know the Gen Z in millennials They they're going to analog to feel relief now. I read books.
I read a lot of books but I must confess and And I'm happy about technology as far as this concerns. I'm reading most of my books. Although I got a book right here It's a it is a book. There it is.
There's a pages manifest anything you can imagine by PJ Poppy Denon's Denon's eo NBA MST X. I don't know what that means. I met the guy at a And an event he gave me his book. I'm reading it right now because I'm trying to manifest and Underneath that is Natural Gardening, which is a book by Leo van amir it was now deceased and Good guy who lived in my neighborhood actually lived two bucks from me and I've been reading his book for years It's an old old organic book uh, but you know I must confess I read most of my books on my iPad Through Kindle and I do that primarily because I don't have a really, you know, I good reading lamp I just don't and my eyes are old and on my iPad the backlight, you know The screen lights up and I can just read a lot easier.
I can read my Kindle books a lot easier If I had a Kindle I could read that as well And the Kindle I used to have and it just wore out. I actually wore out a Kindle Um, it was fabulous. It was a black and white one. You know, I got the color one never liked it Like the black and white one.
It was just you could read it out in the sunlight It was so good. You could read the darn it so I like that and my eyes adjusted to it a lot better. I old eyes Vinyl Everybody's going back to vinyl There's a record store Down the road and around the corner and I walked in there At joeydio joeydio in the starlighters was there making an appearance and I'm looking at all these damn albums I'm a holy cow. This is fabulous.
I am so much liking this And they're here selling like crazy now right over there. I've got two turntables here I've got one that's got the speakers in it and it's it's okay But I got a really good one over there in the closet that I need to get an amplifier for and as soon as I get an amplifier and suitable speakers I'm going to hook that up to play my vinyl with at one time I had every record album that I ever bought from the in the first record album I ever bought was meet the Beatles 1964 So I have every record album I ever bought but I parted with those several years ago, which I regret But I have kept the really hard to find ones I have some really good Albums tucked away here that I would like to listen to and I'm going to the vinyl warehouse down there and buying more Because I'm going to tell you something younger people are tired of subscriptions. They're tired of disappearing content You know physical books records Oh artwork right up there on the wall. I'm looking at it.
It's right there Artwork that's an original Peter Max in the living room is a original yoko. Oh no, well, it's a print But it has her stamp on it and uh, it's you know, it's numbered. It's it's cool I love art as opposed to did you know that Bill Gates in his house? I don't know if this is still the case but when he built this house He put all these screens all over his house where he would have different pieces of artwork pop up on the screen So he had digital art everywhere And I I don't know I like looking at original art.
I just really like looking at original art Just makes me happy And I buy art but I never sell it. I always either keep it or give it away So I think people are more into community than they are algorithms right now people are getting together and meeting each other And I had a nice talk today With a very very very smart man Saying that events are making a giant comeback And what uh We're looking at doing it at the Tampa Bay technology center where I'm a volunteer is we want to do something called micro events And we want to set them up all from around town And it could be a micro event about selling It could be a micro event about how to make a website or it could be a micro event about how to publish a paper newsletter Which is something I am looking at doing in a big way a analog paper newsletter It just kind of makes my heart say to do that So analog is the quiet rebellion It's a subtle pushback against surveillance data harvesting Check It's a way of saying when you're going analog it's a way of saying I choose how I live You're not letting All of the streaming service. You're not letting all of the internets. Thanks The tournament is for you It's just kind of interesting.
