Not because I was a particularly holy teenager, but because my high school had us pray it each morning. The Generosity Prayer of St. Ignatius of Loyola.I prayed it every day for four years, and then seemingly forgot about it for over a decade. I've been rediscovering it lately.One of the real differences between childhood and adulthood — especially for those of us who are married with kids — is what it actually means to be generous. As a teenager, those were just words. As an adult – married with kids, or single – they land differently. There are more responsibilities, more opportunities to give of yourself. And you learn what that actually means. Let us pray. Lord Jesus, teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve You as You deserve to be served, to give and not to count the cost, to fight and not to heed the wounds, to toil and not to seek rest, to labor and not to seek reward.
