Abraham’s servant is entrusted with the task of ensuring that Isaac’s wife comes from Abraham’s own kin, reflecting Abraham’s desire to keep his family faithful to the God they worship and follow. The servant, obedient to Abraham’s request, departs on the journey, taking with him a variety of gifts. He offers her family gifts and explains his mission to her brother, Laban, who agrees to let Rebekah go. When Rebekah herself is consulted, she willingly consents to go with the servant to become Isaac’s wife. Upon their return, Isaac sees Rebekah from a distance and is immediately struck by her beauty and grace. The chapter concludes with a tender moment as Isaac and Rebekah are married, bringing comfort to Isaac after the death of his mother, Sarah.
