Genesis 25 & 26. Reading and reflection

In this episode, we continue through Genesis by reading and reflecting on chapters 25 and 26—passages filled with transition, generational shifts, and the unfolding of God’s promises through the next line of the covenant family. These chapters introduce new tensions, blessings, and patterns that will shape the rest of Genesis. In this episode we explore: Abraham’s final years and the legacy he leaves behind The death of Abraham and the significance of his burial beside Sarah Ishmael’s descendants and their place in the wider biblical story The birth of Esau and Jacob—two nations struggling even in the womb God’s prophetic word to Rebekah about the older serving the younger Esau selling his birthright for a bowl of stew—despising what was sacred Isaac facing famine and God reaffirming the covenant promises to him Isaac repeating Abraham’s pattern of fear with Abimelech God’s blessing on Isaac’s crops and flocks—even in a season of opposition The disputes over wells and the meaning of “Rehoboth” God’s reassurance at Beersheba and the altar Isaac builds there Esau’s marriages and how they bring grief to Isaac and Rebekah Genesis 25 & 26 invite us to reflect on legacy, promise, and the choices we make. Through birthrights, blessings, wells, and divine encounters, we see God’s covenant continuing—even in the midst of human weakness and generational patterns.
