Genesis 43
from Perfectly Imperfect Together · host Perfectly Imperfect Together
In Genesis 43, the brothers return to Joseph since they again run out of grain. Reluctantly, and only with faith, hope, and trust in God, Jacob agrees to let Benjamin go with. This famine is rough and lasts 7 years, much like the coming 7 years of tribulation and trials that will be needed to encourage God's people to return to Jesus. They freak out a bit when they get there and Joseph invites them in for a feast. An unnamed steward welcomes them in and calms their nerves. He assures them the money was returned with their last purchase of grain by God - it was a treasure given by God. The unnamed steward is similar to the Holy Spirit - residing with them, guiding them, encouraging them, and calming their fears all the while bringing forth a message of grace. The grace of God sent Jesus, freely given to us as a treasure. We didn't deserve it or earn it. Joseph is still pressing the brothers to repentance but yet cares for them. loves them, and gives them a huge feast even though they have yet repented. God is good to us regardless of what we deserve or don't deserve. Jesus is good to us. He gave His life for us and suffered brutally even while we were still sinners.
