A family friend was taken from a beach near Anloga in the Volta region for three years and held in an underwater base where the beings looked almost human but were not. Every detail of that story, Wallis says, recurs in the Tylwyth Teg stories of Wales, in Robert Kirk's Secret Commonwealth collected in Scotland in the 1600s, and in the Philippines, where entire vocabularies were built around the abduction narrative. He also walks through the testimony of experiencers like Jane Pooley, an Australian nurse who reports producing two hybrid children, and researcher Barbara Lamb, whose archive holds more than two thousand case studies.
