Genesis Part 58 | The God Who Hears in the Wilderness

In Part 58 of our Genesis series, "The God Who Hears in the Wilderness," we study Genesis 21:15–21 and discover the faithfulness of God when every human resource has been exhausted. As Hagar and Ishmael face what appears to be certain death in the wilderness, Scripture reminds us that the end of our strength is never the end of God's purposes. Fear often leads us to conclusions God has never spoken, but the Lord meets His people in their weakness with His unchanging promises. This message explores how God hears, speaks, and provides in our greatest moments of need. Ishmael's very name means "God hears," and the Lord demonstrates His faithfulness by calling Hagar by name, reminding her of His promises, and leading her from despair to obedient faith. We are encouraged to remember that our confidence is not found in the strength of our prayers, but in the mercy of the God who hears them. When God opens Hagar's eyes to see the well He had already provided, we are reminded that our inability to see God's provision never means He has stopped providing. Finally, we consider how God's grace enables faithful obedience, how His common grace should produce compassion toward others, and why every temporary provision ultimately points us to our greatest need, which is fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
