Genetic testing identifies former Jane Doe in 40-year-old Fort Worth cold case ... and more

In February, genetic technology gave investigators a new lead for a 1984 Fort Worth cold case: a woman found strangled at a landfill. In other news, a 15-year-old died Saturday after entering Lake Jacksonville in East Texas to help a young child whose inflatable device had drifted into deeper water; a man with a machete was allegedly shot and killed by his neighbor in Fort Worth Sunday; and two local coffee cafes are offering free drinks and coffee every Monday this summer. Capital One Café is offering free handcrafted beverages every Monday through Sept. 7. North Texas-based Pax & Beneficia Coffee is also offering free drinks every Monday at its Deep Ellum location.  According to Pax & Beneficia’s Instagram page, everything, including drinks and food, are free all day to guests as a way to show gratitude to all of their supporters.
