口乾雖然不是病，但會嚴重影響生活品質，女性隨著年紀增加，荷爾蒙變化會帶來全身性的改變，唾液分泌會愈來愈少導致口乾舌燥。國外有幾個研究都發現，更年期婦女分泌唾液的速度比較慢，pH值也比較低，也就是口腔比較酸，因此造成嘴巴乾燥，吃乾的東西很難吞嚥的情況。
