GENTLENESS: Building Holy Friendships

Gentleness is a character trait that is highly valued in the Bible. It is one of the nine fruit of the Holy Spirit, which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.As an old friend once said to me, gentleness is defined as “showing personal care and concern in meeting the needs of others.” It is a quality that builds on several other characters released in Christ - traits such as love, alertness, and self-control.The Bible teaches us that gentleness is a powerful attribute that can bring about healing and reconciliation in relationships by allowing the forgiveness of Jesus to be released in the believer. It is not a weakness but a strength that allows us to approach others with compassion and understanding. Furthermore, gentleness is not only demonstrated in our interactions with others, but also in how we view our identity in Christ.Here are some Bible verses that highlight the importance of gentleness:“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:29).“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect” (1 Peter 3:15).“Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near” (Philippians 4:5).Lion of Judah Films is an outreach of IOM America.
