George Ekem Ferguson: The Fante Diplomat Who Drew Ghana's Borders

This episode explores the life and legacy of George Ekem Ferguson, a Fante diplomat and surveyor who negotiated over 30 treaties with northern Ghanaian kingdoms in the 1890s, effectively drawing the borders of what became the Gold Coast and later Ghana. Born in Anomabo and educated at Cape Coast Castle, Ferguson was a brilliant linguist and cartographer who worked for the British colonial government to secure treaties of friendship and protection with kingdoms like the Wa Naa, Yaa Naa (Dagomba), and others in the Northern Territories.
