George Osbourne's salty tears!

George Osborne lost the Brexit argument ten years ago. Now he wants to reverse the result by stealth. The former Chancellor says Brexit has been a “mess”, claims Britain has economically “fallen off a cliff”, and argues that the answer is to rejoin the EU Customs Union. I argue that this is the old Remain establishment trying to reverse Brexit by instalments. Rejoining the Customs Union would constrain Britain's ability to pursue an independent trade policy and move us back towards Brussels without restoring the influence we had as an EU member.
