En 1992 firmaron un acuerdo con la discográfica Virgin Records, que se encargaría de la distribución del material de la Rolling Stones Records y del lanzamiento de sus tres próximos álbumes de estudio. El 6 de enero de 1993, el bajista Bill Wyman anunció oficialmente su salida de la banda en el programa de televisión inglés London Tonight: «Pienso que las dos pasadas giras son lo mejor que hemos hecho, así que me siento muy contento de retirarme». Abandonaba al grupo tras años de deliberar su decisión y tras negarse a firmar un contrato con la Virgin. La salida de materiales solistas y el retiro de Wyman crean una incógnita acerca de la continuidad del grupo.
