Getting a new dog, What Would Jeff Do? Dog Training Tip of the Day #172
from Dog Training Q & A What Would Jeff Do? With Jeff Gellman of Solid K9 Training · host Jeff Gellman
I am often asked about what are the first things you should do when you get a new dog, most of these questions are around a dog that is not a puppy, so the philosophy is similar, for young puppies 8 weeks to 5 months, it is much different than the response for a dog older than 6 months. So the best protocol is when you get a new dog is to spend the first 30 days, working on lots of structure, guidance, behavior, obedience, teach the dog what you want and what you don't want. Find out what motivates the dogs, find out what the dogs triggers are.
