from People's Church · host Herbert Cooper
10-14-18 - Kill The Spider - Getting Over Gluttony - Scotty Gibbons Gluttony - habitual greed or excess in eating. 1. The diet of your life reveals the god you worship. Philippians 3:19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. (ESV) Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers by the mercies of God to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. (ESV) 1 Corinthians 6:12-13 You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything. 13 13 You say, “Food was made for the stomach, and the stomach for food.” (This is true, though someday God will do away with both of them.) But you can’t say that our bodies were made for sexual immorality. They were made for the Lord, and the Lord cares about our bodies. (NLT) 2. Physical health is a spiritual priority. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies. (NIV) 3. Let your cravings work for you not against you. Proverbs 16:26 A laborer’s appetite works on his behalf, for his hunger drives him on. (TLV) Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; (ESV) Proverbs 17:22 A cheerful disposition is good for your health; gloom and doom leave you bone-tired. (MSG) How to Kill The Spider of Gluttony: 1. Evaluate your health. 2. Prioritize your health. 3. Get a friend to go with you on the journey.
