Ghosting on LinkedIn and Facebook messenger

from From Cork With Love - by Paul O'Mahony · host Paul O'Mahony

GhostingHow good are you at using LinkedIn? is it something that’s part of your daily or weekly habit?  are you, by any chance, in a LinkedIn group?I'm awful at LinkedIn. I mean really bad.  for somebody who loves connecting with people around the world, who has quite a few connections on LinkedIn, and who from time to time gets a few LinkedIn direct messages,  I'm a disgrace.I forget to look at LinkedIn for a month at a time -  I have all my notifications turned off.  I got a big surprise when I went into LinkedIn recently and found someone sent me a message in July. Ididn’t see it until yesterday. This  is the worst side of my communications habits.I’m also not very good on Facebook Messenger.  Once I pay attention to it I have quite a few of very good worthwhile connections with people. Sometimes I have extended text & audio conversations with individuals.  For ages I’ve known that sometimes I have several exchanges, they send a message, I put it on the long finger “I'll do it tomorrow,  reply tomorrow”. Tomorrow comes. I get distracted and forget to do it.  Weeks later, I find their unanswered message, their question, or even their very engaging comment. This is not good.  I'm a lot better on Facebook Messenger. LinkedIn  doesn't bother me all that much - but  I still wish it bothered me less. I should be able to get into Messenger every day because I go to Facebook daily. I always read messages publicly sent to me. I even send a response very quickly. Why am I telling you this?In case you feel you're the only one who has a life like this - on you’re feeling “only I could have such a such a shameful time”.in case you feel that kind of isolation,  I'm with you in solidarity.  now that I've told you, I’ve discovered that it’s quite a good way of getting me to change something.  When I say to someone that I'm not doing this well, it often causes me to make a much better effort to get better.Of course, I don't want to feel I'm the only one who finds this difficult.maybe from time to time I appear to have ghosted somebody. I haven't ever done that. Well, I have  a few times - but only a few times since 2007.I forgive myself. I say to myself that I had very good reasons for doing that. you know if somebody treats somebody else in a very unpleasant way, I'm likely to give up all contact with them, and have. If, in my opinion, someone insults me it's quite possible I'll just cut all communications with them - and won't even tell them. Recorded in the car on my way home from walking Louis - after finding a message sent to me last July
