is it two teams of two or two or one-on-one i think you could do singles or doubles it doesn't matter and um it's just a very intense weird game that's almost played like on a stage where everyone is watching the stage and the stage is the court is it spelled not how it looks okay jaylai jaylai jaylai but oh it's delicious it's crazy it's a crazy game that people can get hurt with because there were motorcycles involved in this a lot of things were played in tron that didn't involve the light cycle damn it when you said it's like the thing in tron where they're on the light cycle and they got the scoopy i'm like oh cool this is a sport that involves a motorcycle um inside a sphere where they rode on the outer edge oh man i thought that was the coolest shit in every circus vhs tape i had and that was just two of them i was flipping multiple circus vhs tapes you ever great you ever look up like you ever watch those tapes and go like wait whatever happened to this flying trapeze family and then suddenly discover i said we watch a lot of mr rogers uh and there's an episode where they go to circus and mr rogers leaves a little ways in because he says you know what sometimes you need to have just enough circus normalize for kids like sometimes just leave in the middle man if you have enough just go yes no definitely like don't stay wherever um that applies to everything like you don't have to stay all night in for a baseball game if you're not into it fucking bounce yeah your parents do but hey there's like lulls and circuses though i mean circuses are generally unethical but like there's different dips during a circus yeah those dips i don't think you know the appeal of circus right like if you were to measure the appeal of a circus like that graph that longer is fucking tanking over the last 50 years like yeah i'm sorry but your circus is not as exciting as it was maybe 75 years ago it's probably because you know i'm gonna blame those damn kids on their internet it's probably because you can just see an elephant right fucking now if you just go elephant on your keyboard like sweet i don't need to see it in real life in person is impressive for sure like i want my kids to see a giraffe while there are still those right near me where there's giraffe giraffes is a plural giraffe giraffes yeah yeah so i spent a good long time not so much recently um but um you know when i was driving a lot more i listened to a lot of wrestling podcasts and one of the things you would discover is that the the then wwf spent a lot of time because as a touring company as a touring business they would look at wringling brothers and go how are they doing and they would see dips in the market at the same time all like you know like the economy did that you know did all this stuff it's just it's very fitting to me that wrestling was once very much in tune with the circus oh yeah oh yeah it is literally they came from the same fucking thing but uh it turns out i want to go back to what you're saying earlier jeff gersman you seem to be implying that the trapeze family suffered a horrible fate before we went on this oh also no i found myself like researching because on this episode mr rogers they talk about a trapeze family and give their name well whatever happened to those fucking got and then go look up there's like a gigantic wikipedia page about like the trials and tribulations like well then the father retired and then the sons took him and he's like i can't believe that there's much detail yeah about this trapeze artist this trapeze and trapeze and family um the deep lore yeah and uh i thought there was gonna be some batman forever type incidents i'm sure like i clicked around for a while reading about other trapeze families i'm sure that tragedy is there if you're looking for it or like the the like trapeze artist to crime fighter pipeline i'm sure it's just somewhere um but uh but i didn't find it chris o'donnell baby yeah the flying o'donnells uh they they all famously uh crime chris o'donnell his little earring in that movie oh it's super tiny oh it's so small remember he does karate with his with his laundry i want to see oh right did you ever play that game it was the arcade game that came out on saturday barely barely i was playing a little bit lately i don't know what it was about that game hey it sucked but b if you played as robin and just kind of did fireball motions and slammed on i think i think it had a kick button it wasn't just a generic attack button he would start doing these flip kicks and you would just get like 9 000 hit combos as you're just like killing everything on screen and i distinctly remember as someone who accidentally owned that game uh just doing that for the 45 minutes it took to finish the game it's going okay well that's a fucking terrible time let's have my all thanks oh man give me the chris o'donnell skin in gotham nights you know they released that game play trailer of red hood and a nightwing give me chris o'donnell i think those are bad i i you know i'm not a huge bat fan i'll say but i also think that there's just so many missed opportunities with just like fuck it let's recognize all of these batmans over the years yeah skins and all that stuff like they're they're so caught in their comic book whatever get into fucking you know get into the real batmans the movie batmans and the movie robins that chris o'donnell skin would be hilarious i don't know if y'all checked it out but that nightwing looks exactly like robert pattinson in the batman and i don't know if that'd come out if they already decided on that look or then they and then they saw robert robert robert p and was like no we gotta go for that we gotta go just they look forever shatter rob ford no i mean look yeah i mean you know so i guess like party you do you um speaking of chaos is a chaotic week for video games oh sorry that was loud we barely heard at all great great great well there it is i want to start by talking about the most chaotic thing that's happened this week just kind of gets into the news a little bit i spent some time playing two video games called duke nuke forever two all right explain there are two of them um so uh duke nuke forever a game that was released in 2011 back on the xbox 360 playstation 3 and pc i fired up the pc version and played through the first hour or so of that game again to just to feel alive it didn't work i never felt more dead oh um okay that game is fucking terrible uh i've heard rumors yeah and um the reason i played it is because a build and i guess the full source code of duke nuke forever circa 2001 leaked out onto the internet last night oh wow yeah i guess we'll get into it in the news but like how does that just leak out does somebody oh okay okay yeah it's uh when you get older things start leaking is it a malicious leak an accidental it's not accidental because it came well i mean the people that eventually did put it out put it out like it was a freaking where's release with an info file and stuff like it's broken up into 50 you know 50 meg fucking well it's it's they they packaged it for release uh vintage release i like that yeah and and that's fun uh they also spent some time patching it and trying to come up with some ways that would make more of it load uh george i mean you know we'll get into it now instead of waiting for the news um some screenshots and video of this build were put out a couple of days ago um and along with that they were like ah we'll probably release it to the public in june and then last night they were like yeah you didn't believe that june shit did you here you go and dumped it online um what a weird hype cycle i guess i don't know yeah um and it's interesting because this is the version of the game that was shown or this is around the time the game was shown on e3 the e3 2001 version like the demo they showed of duke nukem forever a lot of screenshots came from that era like that is the the era or so the era that people think of when they think of like what that game was before it became what it became which is to say it took another 10 years for that game to come out it took gearbox buying the ip um and all kinds of other weird dumb shit for a game called duke nukem forever to finally come out but there was another game built on unreal engine 1 um the 3d realms was working on for years and years and years uh famously um and so some chunk of that uh which sounds like it's relatively i mean you know like jorge russard who you know was the founder of 3d realms right um was out there saying like this looks legit to me i don't want to talk about it you know basically it's a painful thing i don't want to really raise it up again and if you dig through kind of what some of the reporting was of from the era but also in the years following i think the people who have kind of spoken about it said like yeah george just wouldn't stop putting stuff in the game and so it just kept getting more and more bloated and more and more bloated and more bloated it took forever to get that to run reasonably well you know it's unreal engine 1 they're stretching it to its limits so you can play pool or whatever dumb shit they want to put in their ddr um and you know because the franchise had made so much money for a long time they just kind of didn't have to ship and so they just kept tinkering away at this dumb thing for a very long time kind of going nowhere with it uh until you know the money ran out and all that stuff and you know like eventually gearbox picks it up and turns it into something else um and so it's interesting to go back and look at this game because it's a 2001 era so remember 2001 that's like that's the year the xbox came out oh okay that's like the year halo came out that's like the year after uh never mind half came out like 98 or something yeah um and so but it is this game that still has its foot in that era of pc shooting like not to say it was ever going to be the quality of half-life or anything like that but it's it you look at the player movement and stuff like that i guess it's a much snappier game it's a game where you can have every gun in the game all at once whereas by the time 2011 rolled around the trends had changed so much that they turned it into a halo situation where you could only hold two weapons at the same time eventually they changed that i think so you'll have four but it was never um it was never like an old pc shooter where it's just like every number key is going to do at least one thing and in this case like you look at the weapons menus from screenshots that leaked out and it's just full of shit um and in the way that the shooters were at that time and it's kind of fascinating to go back and look at this weird early 2000s era like every menu in the game just looks like a shitty perfect dark kind of you know it's like that early 2000 like everything's italicized because it's the future you know like like that that type of aesthetic on on the menus and stuff and then see them trying to cram a duke nukem sequel or what they thought people who played duke nukem 3d would want out of another duke nukem game which is such an insane concept and and so there's not a ton of video game to this leak it is a bunch of levels like it sounds like all the content that they showed at e3 is somewhere in that build um there are some enemies here and there there's npcs that'll walk you around in some situations and there's just so much goofy shit so it's it's not a final game it's not something you're gonna play start to finish if you ever do decide to get your hands on it which i'm not gonna get into the morality or whatever around you doing so um but it's just this fascinating relic of like something you kind of never thought you would currency yeah um that just kind of dropped out of nowhere and you know i don't know if this was something was kicking around in the hands of a small number of people for a while and one inside or if it's just you know did someone involved in three realms just like get pass it off recently or you know like i don't know what the chain of events that led to this release actually are but it's just super fucking fascinating that's interesting yeah dig through it and and kind of realize that like oh like they were the direction they were heading in and you see some of this in the game that shipped in 2011 but by the time it got to gearbox in 2k i think like there was a certain aspect of just like well we can't release this we can't like the tone of this is like there are parts of the 2001 game you look at and go like this is like if postal had a budget this is like if the people that made postal 2 and they was like fuck it man we're edgy and like wanted to make a video game but had infinite money well not infinite but money up to a point um and just kept working on it because there's just aspects of it you're like this sucks this is like oh right these are the people that made duke nukem 3d and also fucking shadow warrior like of course it's like this and they had huge success so of course it's like that um there's a text-to-speech dialogue in there that they hadn't you know gone and recorded real dialogue for like a few lines from duke um there's some captions and stuff like that but just so you can't really get the full you're not gonna get full game story out of it and piecing together a little bit of dialogue um but then you know maybe if you dig through the source code maybe there's a lot more there you just don't see i don't know for sure um it's really interesting though should we check this out for upf or something no probably interesting no there's uh it sounds like there's uh you know there's like full frontal nudity in some of the menus there it's probably maybe not the also i tried streaming it to discord last night and it really doesn't like being run in a window and fucking just dies every single day it doesn't like being run all valid reasons not to do good things it does not like being run yeah yes uh for sure but it's so fascinating to look at it and you know as more and more people dig through the source code there's been people out there on twitter saying like well i'm gonna finish the game make sure that i'm gonna put it together and put these pieces together into something and try to craft a real video game here good luck but um but yeah it's really it's fascinating to see it i think the most fascinating part about it to me is going back and playing the 2011 game and seeing just how much conceptually it's still there like there's a casino that you do in the opening of that game called the lady killer casino and it's got this logo on the buttons and like all that stuff is in that 2001 build and it's weird to think about like the the decade in the middle there and the idea that that game changed hands and became a completely video game engine also well maybe it's a leader i don't know what the final game actually runs on but just this idea of like some concepts having a through line from those days into this final product is really fucking mind-blowing to me yeah because you always figure you know like by the time that thing resurfaced they showed it off at pax and i remember playing it and just being like what the fuck all right like you know this maybe this will end up being okay it didn't seem great but who knows um but it just seemed like such a different game and when you look at the footage of the old one you're like this is something different this is not these are not the same products but you see just elements of like whether it's the story or different characters or other stuff like that um like seeing those bits and pieces that somehow made it through that decade into the final product is really fascinating it's also wild to see how games were and like it's just like a perfect time capsule of this is what first-person shooters kind of were or an attempt of them right you know it's like that's like someone had to sit down and go like okay like we're in a new era of shooters or i mean they were about to be right like halo halo changed expectations for the mainstream audience and there became this like there's a rising console audience for shooters at that point once halo came out gold and i kind of did it to an extent too but it wasn't really like the pc shooter market really wasn't what it used to be either so i imagine being in that weird limbo that weird mid-period of like you know it's pre-halo but halo's right around the corner people are excited for it like what is like you're in the middle of this trend shift and like that build duke forever seems very much on the other side of that chasm uh dark future could have been right yeah yeah um and it's just it's fucking weird just to look at and think about like well what if like what if that game actually just came out early oh two i would need a lot because it would only come out on pc at first right it would have you know it would have been a year after halo like just the way that unreal tournament kind of just didn't i don't know so like you know there were still great pc shooters competitive shooters happening by 0304 so maybe it would add a shot you know we're out somewhere in the middle of that like half-life half-life 2 era so yeah it's just there's the name duke newcomb curry that much you carry that much favor amongst people other than just kind of being now memed to death do you mean right now or do you mean then then or so yeah for sure like duke 3d was a huge game and uh and an awesome video game you know i think people get caught up in like the duke character and that's the only thing people remember now is just like oh like what a fucking lame thing's good yes yeah like what it did above and beyond what doom was doing like just i had a friend who worked at a computer store and they had four pcs networked together in the back and we just go back there and play fucking four-player duke games all the time because weapons were crazy like a trip mine like i just had weapons that like doom didn't have it was just more thoughtful weird stuff and uh and being able to play with those strange toys in a competitive game was really awesome like the gameplay itself you know it's doom but you can look up and down and that stuff's not awesome you get a jetpack and you can kind of hover up and down but it's janky as fuck changed gaming forever now looking up is like i know now everyone's looking up everyone's looking up these days yeah uh but yeah like like there were gameplay things that duke 3d did that made it worth the attention it wasn't just the game factory or whatever whatever and but now like thinking about now like it's been 11 years since that last duke newcomb game oh that's 2011 that game came out i remember we went to e3 we went to e3 2011 and then word got out that like hey 2k totally has retail copies of duke forever at their booth and they're not giving out to everyone and we already had our 2k appointment and didn't get one and so we went back and found the guy okay look listen you need to give us this video game and they very much didn't want to but they did and so then i spent the rest of that show like it was very much like this happened this doesn't happen as much in video games anymore because everything's so digital and whatever um and but there was very much an aspect of like i only have so many of these and i don't want to be hounded by every single person at the show for a copy so i'm gonna hand you this do not fucking show it to anyone um and a lot of review copies came with those sorts of things back then simply because like so and so didn't want to get a billion phone calls from every single video game website in the world or whatever however big or small anyway we shook that guy down got a copy of the game so much down yeah and uh and then i had to walk around the rest of that show with this cursed object in my bag uh contraband yeah i got home and played it and it sucked that's the end of that story but it's a terrible it's just a terrible going back and playing it now is just like a good reminder it's like god it doesn't do anything it's so slow uh like the opening to that game is a lot of like walk and talk like you learned all the wrong lessons from like you know what gears of war had done and even what halo had done by that point it is uh archery water in chat says duke forever is a wretched miserable game that's exactly right it's it's fucking abysmal it is like and at the time i don't think anyone involved with it was saying like it's out it's gonna be great it was more like this game is we're putting it out and that's exciting right it exists it's exciting that this game will exist like everyone had already written it off like no one was expecting duke forever to come out at that point it was already like fucking whatever and then when the rights got acquired and everything else and then gearbox stepped in randy pitchford said i'm gonna wave my magic wand over this video game it's gonna ship uh and fucking abracadabra that shit into existence yeah but like but like to what end and now we're gonna get a duke movie don't you remember too really without airing too much dirty laundry like there were scandals with like the release and review and just like all these things that like i'm trying to remember like around the release okay there was a very specific thing you have to tell me you have to talk about it now because i just remember someone i don't remember the circumstances or the people specifically but i remember someone getting very upset about how much that game was getting dragged oh well i guess i'm trying to think of this pre-twitter but i guess not uh no it was it was in the middle of twitter it was really angry that duke was getting dragged i think it was a pr person okay oh yeah okay yeah yes he was removed from the accounts in the wake of that oh yeah i just remember like and then everyone just sort of being like oh come on this game's not good what are you don't yeah it was very much like a quiet part out loud sort of thing it's like we're not gonna send i'm not gonna send games out to these outlets anymore so they're so unprofessional it's like unanimous hatred for this thing that you got early like all right everyone all right yeah uh that guy's a good guy he still is working uh he got caught in a bad moment there but um but that dude's okay so you mentioned the duke movie is there any like news since 2020 about that or i think i'm trying to look it up it's like is this really happening i'm gonna say yes that's really gonna happen i mean finally made the untarded movie this is a post-embracer gearbox that is now finishing up the borderlands movie i mean and they specifically went to go start a film division with your box entertainment or whatever it is like like randy as he said it packs he's a little bit hollywood now um and so they're gonna fucking do it they're going to make a fucking new movie in 2024 who knows by the time look i know this sort of like directly conflicts with everything we've been preaching the last you know six months but i would just like to say i fully nominate chris pratt for the role of duke motherfucking newcomb for my mouth to god's ears please god lord he might come off he's uh i don't want john cena to do it because i like john cena i got bad news for you i'm just what okay gee that felt real but no seriously uh lord uh lord of hollywood please make it your business to sign and lock up chris pratt for the role yeah i don't know i suspect on the other end of peacemaker uh john cena is probably the perfect choice for duke newcomb yeah do you think a duke newcomb movie would be like a parody or like what is that what is that right like what is the angle yeah is it gonna be serious character no no it's gonna be comedy it's actually hero shit yeah is it gonna be sad bastard duke newcomb who's like ashamed of his of his son's past he's gonna be fish out of water shit where like powers but he like hates and wants to subjugate women i'm just saying like oh wait awesome powers weird right okay he is this action hero in real life where he's just like nothing blows up everything hurts what is his pain huh people die for real uh it's amazing and then duke newcomb comes into earth we'll just make him an duke is going to be materialized in the real world what's gonna happen it's gonna be scary and it's like a pygmalion thing where his like female roommate that accidentally summoned him has like turned into a proper modern gentleman or something we can't do that for women baby yeah i remember like years ago i remember years ago like it was a poor choice exactly years ago there was an interview with like a bunch of different indie developers being like when we asked some indie developers how would you reimagine duke newcomb and uh sam barlow the guy that wrote um silent hell shattered memories uh her story war games remember there was a war games game very briefly there's a new one but there's something he's on something now right but he he's i got beef with this guy and how he writes and what he writes but whatever he suggested that he made the one good silent hill game what's your beef oh my god don't go on let's go let's go motherfucker anyway so he was saying that the duke duke remake would be like i want to get to know his sensitive side i think like he goes to a strip club he stays really late and you know he talks to one of the strippers when he gets to know her he turns into a listener instead of a doer and i was just being like man shut the fuck up actually darren aronofsky should write the duke nuke movie now that i've had a moment to think about it okay yep yeah let's go that way okay and if you want to keep work to come back and see which plays i'm sorry that plays that plays do you end up you know i can almost see a scene at the end of that movie that's like the redemptive duke nuke has found his place but it's like end of boogie night style yeah he wants out his dick and it's actually pretty small and very long i'm ready to fuck he's imagining he's pushing a stroller at the end and his baby all sweat sunglasses and cocks right sure the cycle of life continues so it's half a pop he's you know he's found a i mean look now that we've written the thing cut the check that's right randy never mind um yeah it's it's a fascinating turn of events that's gotten people talking about duke in a way that no one has in a very long time and uh that can probably only be good for the franchise in some sick way um so now i want to check out duke nuke 3d right like no one knows where that i it's not public where this league came from i don't know where it came from but like part of the marketing yeah in some sick way it's like somehow the best thing that could happen for a company that is probably going to try to make a duke nuke movie here in the relatively near term oh it looks like there's a script in these files oh what's that i'm gonna pay for kidnapping my gay daughter who i love that's okay i can buy that sure like it makes sense uh is like in his mid to late 60s now retired cop who's just you know on a different political spectrum as his daughter like just said who's also a cop like the diehard uh video game sequel where they say like he plays john plane's grown daughter who's also a cop and he gets dragged back in for one last romp uh five times back on the job it could happen they stole my apes it's just a big nft guy oh i see the best idea in in the chat and his daughter's voiced by ronda rousey i'm just asking questions about sandy hook oh no that came out cool that came out uh it's around um let's see jan you've been playing some more modern video games uh citizen sleeper people seem to be talking quite a bit about it oh man um yeah citizen sleeper i mentioned it very very briefly last week uh to i don't want to bore everyone by painstakingly uh describing all the mechanics but it is a a the developer frames like a tabletop rpg so you there's a lot of text a lot of story and you are making uh a lot of decisions based off of dice rolls uh and of course you know the higher the dice rolls the better it is lower you're just gonna get out of the ground um but the story that they're telling uh with it is is absolutely amazing uh and this is on game pass it's on the switch and seems well uh this feels like a no-brainer to check out if you have game pass because oh boy has this uh is this story made me feel all types of emotions and just straight up uh emptiness of uh existence and everything and it made me high for that come on yeah just made me feel like an existential crisis and you know the story is you are a sleeper which is like a synthetic humanoid uh and you're trying to make ends meet on a spaceship and as you progress through there's a lot of intrigue that happens with the different interactions and the different relationships you're building uh i wound up just marathoning it through last night because i was just in a part where um all the story bits were just kind of clicking off and everything uh i my playthrough was about maybe five ish hours long uh and i wound up checking like how many alternate endings there were and there were two different paths for other endings that i and i didn't come across any of those people at all and like i i thought i'd met everyone i could possibly meet and like gone through these different uh trials and these different branching paths and um uh but those two different story paths the different conclusions did not come across those people at all and i was really upset that there was a part in my playthrough that i thought i failed a mission and i was like oh no oh no i let them down uh and then like it was after that i was like well no i have to i have to see this to the end now uh and and i think i got an okay ending there but in between that ending there's like five different story piece popping off with five different people i've met of of uh these people making me question my own humanity while i'm playing this game about robots and and the writing's really brilliant i think it's pretty much uh mostly done by one person most of the writing is done by one person which just seems insane but i guess you know one you know they're authors people write books that's not as insane but the different systems and everything it's amazing and just the art style i think i really clicked with because it's on like a derelict spaceship i does off of norco mostly because i just couldn't really get into the setting and everything and i just wasn't clicking that well the story here uh it took me a while to get a hang of the systems because everything is kind of complicated and the tracking of these different story beats is a little bit all over the place um and i was just making bad decisions because you only have a set amount of dice per day uh and then once you go through those dice you can't really do much afterwards um but and i know that part wasn't clicking with me until maybe like an hour or so in so don't be dumb like me uh but even then i was thinking like i could i could re-roll and start from the beginning again because now i know how to do all this stuff uh but i was too attached to everyone i'd already met at that point i was like well you know that guy seems like an asshole anyway i don't care about him um i'm gonna go spend good dice on that dick exactly and then like i could have probably picked a better starting class because there is a where you can get really early in the game to just re-roll your dice i was like you know what nah it's cool it's cool i'll just live with it and then i got really attached to growing mushrooms in space uh yeah it isn't it isn't too long it'll probably take 30 30 or so minutes and probably reading closer on the directions uh to get a hang of the different systems and everything uh but yo if you want to feel real good empty inside in the good way and bad way uh then please definitely check out uh citizen sleeper it's uh i if you want to mainline afterwards also if you i feel like if you want to mainline specific quests and different story beats you can't totally go that way and completely forego every other thing i think uh the problem i had is i just wanted to do everything uh that wanted not being feasible i guess a lot of people's first playthrough of that is you know because i feel like we're trained at some point to try to do everything yeah yeah yeah yeah i also like find it difficult to not do that completion stuff sometimes it's one of the reasons i bounced off of disco elysium which is like shameful because i know that game is incredible but like i just kept making mistakes i had to live with and i was like no these are mistakes this isn't gonna let me get the best i need to hang on i need to refresh hang on everyone thinks i'm racist now i was pretending to be racist to get something out of this guy fuck yeah i didn't experience too much choice paralysis in this game so if that is a thing and there's no safe coming because there's auto saves there's there's no there are multiple safe files but you can't uh do a manual save to a specific slot uh you just gotta live with it and oh boy did i did i live with it yeah yeah the fantasy of like no real consequences i would just live there was a point and i'll be as vague as possible but there was a point where i was getting double crossed but the person double crossing me i i didn't think they were alive anymore and then i was like how are you doing this and and it's i really like the art style uh of the little character portraits there's no voice acting in the game uh so you're gonna have to do a lot of reading character portraits uh kind of remind me of like a brian lee o'malley like scott pilgrimmy future heuristic grunge tech uh and man just like those those people look really sick there's just there's one dude that you see everyone looks dirty as hell super grungy your own character robot looks like you're on the verge of breaking down uh one of the first dudes you meet just has like goggles that are like stitched to his skin sick but one of the coolest dudes in this game just wearing a pink suit nice in space i'm like why not like oh wow someone's gotta do it yeah uh please check it out yeah i'm i'm gonna give that a look uh just even playing sucker for love what is that all about so i played a little tiny bit of sucker for love on upf and then i forgot to go back to it and i had a scotch of free time and i was like what's what's probably little that i can like you know bang out the rest of and i haven't banged out the rest of it yet because there's actually like three different paths with different it's basically a uh visual novel dating thing but instead of you know cutesy anime girls uh it's cutesy eldritch uh horrible unfathomable girlfriends uh and they're all it's really it's a funny game uh you're doing lots of different rituals so it's a lot of just like following instructions okay i remember i remember this one now yeah it's a lot of following instructions but there's also like a lot of different path choices where it's like oh if i do this ritual now the other girl will get mad at me if she finds out so like there's a lot of like paths where it's just like you died or you went insane in an eldritch way or you were like you succumbed to the madness of the cosmos or whatever uh and all the ladies very smoking gotta say for eldritch beasts and stuff like that uh they got great voice acting uh they're so hubba's uh but it's funny it's like funnier than i thought it would be it's like riffing on the tropes of visual novels and like harem anime and stuff like that so it's definitely telling a pretty good joke and the art is really really nice the music is this like goofy uh either the typical like uh anime ass like slice of lifestyle like soundtracks and stuff like that uh so yeah sucker for love is like uh adorable i want to play more of it so i can meet the secret girlfriend and find out what her her eldritch deal is about because there's a whole path where you get like a spooky hand on your uh spooky mouth on your hand that can only that's the only thing that can pronounce certain stuff in certain incantations so you have to go through yeah you read this i can't pronounce it i'm just a human the human mouth um but there's like secret areas where you can you know find incantations that will eventually clearly summon the third girlfriend and i'm like where's this secret cat girl girlfriend need to find her the mouth of my hand is my secret girlfriend okay what no i actually i'm not going to allow anyone to know where my thinking went once those words came out of your mouth okay so jess if you would love to continue your mouthhand story i would that was the conclusion of the mouthhand story i'm sorry to report it's all right well now it's a it's a cheap or free i forget it's very cheap at least uh somebody said i hope there's a queen in yellow joke there is there's a whole girlfriend that is a queen in yellow so it's cool y'all let's get pegged everybody yes wait wait so nice uh i just don't understand like i it's a roguelike so you are uh there's branching paths whether or not to start an encounter with an enemy a mysterious event where you perhaps can get imbued with the spirit of lightning and get sick balls orbs sick orbs uh it's still in early access but for where it's at right now i think it's a full ass game um i believe there's up to three worlds in it uh there's no different characters but as you progress through the maps you are picking up different orbs different balls with different abilities always go for the multi-ball you know because multi-ball rules them all right um but uh there's different synergies with everything and you are not the objective is not to clear all the pegs on the board it's actually to use the pegs to attack um the enemies because there's an enemy lane up top on top of the board of enemies slowly approaching you or just casting spells to try and kill you and everything um and you can target the different enemies so if you have uh specific balls that can hit anyone or pierce pierce uh people uh you can you can do that it's can get very very punishing surprisingly uh the first world you can kind of rinse through it uh no problem but in the second world i started a lot of trouble there's unfinished on the website right now that rory and i did and boy how are we cooking um we had a good build bombs going off all over the place multi-balls everywhere just balls everywhere everyone was getting pegged and pegless um nice and it doesn't mean also to just project like hey these enemies are approaching so you want to just double check uh whether or not you're going to get your your stuff kicked in um and yeah it really made me realize how much i fucking miss pegle you know yep i'm great pegle's great pegle too is great there was a game last year that was a pegle like and i can't remember the name of it now um but it was a similar situation just like what if we took pegle and tried to put more stakes on it yeah like kind of a run-based pegle or you know but i can't remember what that was it's a matter of time before someone at ea goes like oh yeah i guess we should make a new pegle yeah i don't know tie it into a movie or something the duke nukem movie is the game the duke nukem game is tied to the movie so pegle that's right we dropped the fifa license and now here's pegle fc i play the crap out of that sure um the other uh interesting things about the pegle boards is you know normally in a roguelike like a slave of fire etc you're choosing the specific path to go down you have to shoot your ball into the specific path so you could completely want to go to the right direction you want to get like the treasure chest or you want to just skip a mini boss battle but just like in pegle get one bad bounce go to the other side completely um it's really fun seeing how the different synergies work with the different orbs and everything um i believe there's like a lot they're working actively on balancing the game because a lot of folks complaining that no you know it's kind of hard i just want i just want these pegs yeah yeah i think it's in these pegs mode um and i think right now yeah still in early access it's only on Steam, but man, what I wouldn't do to A, have a Steam Deck by now, and have this on a phone or a Switch. Oh, man. Yeah, this has now thankfully replaced the I'm having this running constantly game in the background, because for a long time, that was lucky to be a landlord, and I'm happy to say I kicked that addiction, but I'm also unhappy to let everyone know that they're rolling out updates for Super Auto Pets. You're just hopping from addiction to addiction in this life, aren't you?

All right, in the news this week, Fortnite. You can play it on a phone. What? They're letting you play this game on phones.

This is an interesting workaround that is, I think, probably a pretty good thing for Microsoft to do. It's an interesting test. So they're making Fortnite totally free on Xbox Cloud streaming. Normally, that's something you have to be all subscribed to Game Pass and all of this other stuff to get involved in any of the Xbox streaming stuff.

They announced last week, hey, you want to play Fortnite? You just do it. If you have a Microsoft account and an iOS device or Android, whatever, phone, tablet, PC, it doesn't matter. You will be able to just do that for free.

This gets around, of course, the iOS version of Fortnite being removed from iPhones. God, was that last year or the year before? Oh, my God. That is a great question.

There's no way to know. There's no way to know. My hands are busy opening this can of VOOs. What?

It's wild and watermelon VOOs. Did you raid some sort of like a prop, you know, seller or something from my Wi-Fi movie? My wife went to the store and I said, get me some energy drinks. And she came back with some VOOs.

It sounds like it would have alcohol in it. I'm going to get wet. That's what I'm going to do. So, yeah, this will let you play Fortnite on your phone or wherever, really, over the Xbox Cloud Gaming Network for no money.

This is something like, you know, Stadia. I feel like the promise of Stadia for a long time was in stuff like this, but they had no plan. I remember when Stadia was getting off the ground and they were trying to do deals and get games on the service, they had no plan for free play games because their whole thing was like, we need to sell the game to make money on streaming it. Otherwise, if you can just stream a free game for free, that's money out the door all the time.

Microsoft is like, no, we're getting people in this ecosystem. And I assume, you know, they get their standard cut on cosmetic sales and whatever else V-Bucks related. Sure. I'm guessing.

I don't actually know. But it just seems like a no-brainer, right? Like you're looking at you like, this seems like a super smart thing for Microsoft to get more people to sign up for Microsoft accounts that may not have one already. This maybe gets them to go like, well, that's the risk, right?

This maybe gets them to go like, oh, what other games could I be playing if I had paid Microsoft's Game Pass accounts? I've already done all this stuff. What other games could I play? It's probably like on your phone and stuff, right?

Yeah, yeah. It's like, here's a good upsell opportunity for them to get people into the Game Pass system. But then you got to like fight against like, is your game more compelling to this audience than Fortnite is? And that's where a lot of that I think breaks down.

But maybe that works. I'm sure some people don't sign up. I wonder what the crossover is for people needing and wanting to play Fortnite on phones and also the Minecraft audience, if that is at all together. You know, that's just me assuming they're all children.

Yeah, I don't know. There's probably some, but you know, that's, yeah, maybe that's like, oh, I can also play Minecraft on this if I was paying them on Game Pass. Maybe that's like the gateway in that would work. Yeah, that's a good one.

I'd say they'd be another good candidate for cloud stuff, but that already exists. You know, you can probably already do that. Yeah, probably pretty smart on the Microsoft end even if this is like money out the door in bandwidth costs for them on the streaming stuff just to get people through the door and get them to try out their stuff. Because you at least need to make an Xbox account at the very least, even if it's free, right?

The Strong is the place I would like to go someday. They've got a big National Museum of Play. They've got a ton of video game related stuff out there. And they've been running this Hall of Fame for like the last seven years or so.

And here's the game. So this ends up being like fan inducted where like they already have a website up where it's like, write in the games you think should be in the Hall of Fame. And then I think they go through a process where they do have an advisory board and all this other stuff. But there is an element of like, hey, you Joe video games, go fill out this form.

Pokemon, go to the polls. That's right. And make it happen. Go type in Blackwater or whatever cool video game you're into and see where you get to.

This year's inductees, Ms. Pac-Man. Okay. Yeah, which is, I've been the subject of some controversy lately.

What'd she do? She, well, she's been replaced. Mid-season? Yes, a mid-season replacement.

No, no, no. It's not a Roseanne situation, I don't think. Anyway, what happened is that Namco did not make Ms. Pac-Man.

An American company called GCC did. So Midway got the U.S. rights to Pac-Man back in the 1980, around there. And so Midway was responsible for putting Pac-Man machines out in United States arcades.

And at the time, they thought, well, that gives us a license to do all kinds of stuff. And so a company called GCC who had done other like weird kind of ROM hack add-ons for games like Missile Command, they said, we're going to make a game called Crazy Auto. And it's going to be like Pac-Man, but he's got legs and runs around and does all this other stuff. Midway saw that and said like, that's cool, you should make it a lady.

And then, you know, the rest is history, I guess. So the GCC went on to make Ms. Pac-Man. They put it out in American arcades and it blew the fuck up.

But Namco kind of said like, hey, wait, hang on. We are Pac-Man. You are not Pac-Man. We give you the license to Pac-Man.

You don't go make your own Pac-Man. What the fuck are you doing? And led to a bunch of hullabaloo that kind of never quite got resolved. Eventually, a company called AtGames that makes a bunch of really shitty handheld plug-and-play plug-into-your-TV classic video game collection things.

Yeah, they apparently at some point drawn Ms. Pac-Man in Pac-Land, which I believe is the 2D, the side sculler thing. What does it look like now? It was like a real quick kind of sprite hack.

They changed colors here and there. Okay. It was like relatively minor changes. It's not like the gave her boobs and ponytails.

It's crazy. No, they gave her a slightly different name. I think she's referred to slightly differently as well, if I'm getting this right. Mrs.

Pac-Man? I don't know. It might be a Mrs. Pac-Man or a Pac-Lady.

Because Namco would then respond with Super Pac-Man and say this is the sequel to Pac-Man and I think later on the creator would be like eh, that game was no good. I liked it. You got big.

fifa soccer at some point yes but not for not in a while not for a while and not probably not overseas i bet that was oh yeah the boxes here if i had to guess but uh we did a very bad thing with that place just had a fucking just need to get something off their chest yeah um anyway the new york times reported on this uh as ea was putting out their own press release it sounds like that they had a lot of negotiations back and forth with fifa and according to the new york times fifa basically wanted twice as much money uh at least and they were getting 150 million dollars a year from ea already which is so you know fifa an organization everyone respects and loves uh totally above board yeah and i guess on the ea side of things the other part of this was fifa was like also we want to be able to license the name out for more than just your video game what um because you know because hey we want to make a mobile game we want to do this we want to do fifa cards over here we want to do a fifa gambling game yeah um to which then ea says like wait a minute like that's our good name you are dragging through the mud whenever you write fifa on another video game that turns out to be a fucking an even bigger scam than ours um so uh yeah so fuck that and they are going to rename the game ea holds enough different uh licensing agreements with different uh football organizations your coifas your premier leagues your la liga sure so on and so forth but they will still have the it sounds like they will still have the majority of the teams and faces and like this isn't all the other stuff that that a player of that game would probably want it'll just be you'll have to go to the store and not get a game that says fifa on it and then this will get more complicated probably in another year or so whenever fifa does do a new deal to do a new console game that there will then be a game on shelves called fifa again that is not the fifa you know and love wonderful um and so that'll be interesting times is there room in the world for more soccer games yeah i think so yeah probably kanami had one that one yeah there used to be two you know there was kanami had winning 11 and then ea had fifa or pro evolution soccer whatever you want to call it yeah and then kanami got into the business of not making video games um and so they put out that e-football thing just this year that apparently sucks ass through a straw um coffee stir perhaps sounds like just a miserable product on every level um everyone loves it and so yeah so but they backed away from the direct competitor fifa largely because they can get the licenses or their licenses are going to expire and they're like hey we don't want to keep spending this money to do this and let the ego bid on it and so that kind of in some ways set the stage for this um and yeah i don't know all this was kind of known to be happening but uh but now it's on the table the current deal will end next summer so presumably that would mean that the the game that comes out in 2023 will be the one called e-sports fc fc say your last precious words to the franchise fifa i mean people will walk into a store and say you got that fifa yeah and they'll hand over the fc yeah and that only gets complicated once there is another game called fifa and then people there will probably end up being like i bought for my grandson the new fifa game and it's turned to go no this is the fucking shit-ass one that thq nordic put out you dummy um or whoever ends up getting that where enix made a fifa game i don't know it's just a bouncer engine with a ball i don't even fucking know what we're doing here fifa lockhart who's this fifa fifa lockhart's what they call that unofficial statue they couldn't call it fifa i can't use that as a two is upon us uh this i believe launched last week uh it is in pretty rough shape halo infinite has been very interesting it has been nothing but complaints it's like i feel like as a player who kind of dips into it um and plays quite a bit and then goes away for a while and comes back like it's been fine but the ongoing hey i want to play this game every day crowd seem like they have just been getting one raw deal after another uh season two called the wolves launched with like two new maps some cool cosmetics like you can get clippy microsoft microsoft's hit character clippy kind of like a gun charm or something which is oh that's legit that's funny that's good that's cute um glad he's making yeah clippy's gonna play he's gotta he too uh but then this rollout has been a mess their their new battle pass came along with this along with new events that the last part in last spartan standing which is a pretty fun mode but it seems to only happen on one map and i played about four of those because there's an event going on that you need to play that mode to unlock stuff in but it's just that map over and over again i'm like cool this is a new map but i don't want to do this anymore uh and also i'm not getting the event credit on my battle pass that i'm supposed to be getting because there's a glitch so that sucks too uh and i experienced all of that there's some stuff where like uh in the campaign they patched out uh the ability to you can hijack a pelican like the big flying thing there's a way you can fly up and steal one you know it was very glitchy it was not something clearly not something you were supposed to do but also probably something they shouldn't have fixed because it was just fun and goofy and they're looking into that i guess um and it's just another case of like 343 having to get out there and saying like we hear you it's bumpy we're working on it and that has just been their refrain since that thing came out and that's a bummer uh because i think that game's really fucking good uh but they can't catch a break on the live service end of things for sure um yeah uh they there was a recent story saying certain affinity i believe it's still based in texas uh it was one of the halo founder of the the minds behind original halo started the studio but they were going to be brought on to work on more aspects of halo and all i can i just that game needs from for my non-money for this game i feel like that game desperately needs more maps like their season two rollout and being like here's two maps and one is for a mode that you might not that i don't personally play a lot of um it's not enough like that game needs like two to three times the number of maps it has right now just to have a variety to it to keep things fresh and you know it's really i'm already kind of done with the the maps it launched with and adding like a couple more here isn't gonna bring you back to the game well for a long time you know i'll be like i'll get back in and do some stuff and have some fun and unlock some shit and it's like hey this is a cool game but it just isn't gonna get its hooks back in me unless they've got like i said probably at least double the number of maps that they have today um and all the glitches and other stuff that sucks too obviously yeah i spent an obscene amount of time in halo infinite multiplayer but now i think i'm just i should probably finish the campaign but then i just kind of want to wait for co-op but who knows when that'll come yeah yeah i mean it'll probably be the year mark i feel like at this point potentially yeah i i don't know they yeah i i don't know what they what they intend to do there but that's a that's a good ass video game that is i you know i'm sure there are people working very hard on it all the time every single day but at the same time this is like jesus this game needs more than you were so anyway i guess like my hope is that when they when they said hey he's gonna come on and do some more stuff hopefully that's them recognizing this game needs more content it needs more people's eyeballs on it working on it fixing it all this other stuff like it's halo you would presume they would get there but also i both said that they would have gotten there by now and they have not so we'll see um in other microsoft news they are apparently working on a streaming device a streaming puck a streaming stick whatever you want to call it this comes from uh adventure beats games beats jeff grubb um reporting over on adventurebeat.com uh this is the thing they should do right i mean they have their cloud streaming service they should have a device that is cloud focused and uh the story here is uh basically claiming that according to people familiar with the plans that they will have a device within the next 12 months uh that will be focused on playing xbox games via the cloud onto your television also says that they will work with samsung to create an app specifically for samsung tvs that will also achieve this same thing of streaming games anyone streamed a game lately um the other streaming games now they're doing some streaming yeah i feel like i've done uh some of the xbox stuff relatively recently when they opened it on consoles right yeah um i don't i just don't uh find myself in a situation where that becomes i feel like for me the cloud gaming solution is the worst case scenario yep where you're just like i am in a very unique situation of either i'm on the go and it's just not feasible or i what is it i can't i must play this game now and can't wait 25 minutes um yeah yeah so i have not i think it's a good safety net is how i classify it at the moment yeah yeah and it works yeah like i guess like it's almost they kind of you know through no fault of their own they were rolling this stuff out as everyone was staying home all the time well yeah and so i also think when this stuff was getting real hot and i remember uh the last e3 that i was at microsoft was showing off i guess some sort of prototype version of it yeah at the galen center after their press conference and i remember years and forza there yes yeah right and i think i just remember at that point in time being like everyone seems to be competing for this uh sort of like claim to be this ability to have this claim but i don't feel like any of them take it more seriously than that in a weird way because it was more about making sure you had this sort of offering but not exactly being a pivotal you know institution within your your business model yeah i remember the time the part of it that made a lot of sense to me was their desire to like reach a lot of markets where maybe they weren't gonna sell a lot of xbox consoles but everyone had a phone they're like hey in brazil or you know or wherever other parts of the world this has the potential to be totally huge and we want to make sure that our cloud centers in those locations are good enough to do this and ensure that people can play stuff on their phone um and that that was their big push was to to try to you know they're always talking about like with windows we want a billion devices running our stuff and you know this is the sort of stuff that used to try to get there in one way or the other to try to broaden that that user base and so i that aspect of it, I look at it like, they should do that. They should totally, absolutely do that. But somewhere where I'm literally, you know, 10 feet away from an Xbox Series X, you know, most of the time, it's just not, it's just not for me. I think if things were opened up and I was traveling more, there's definitely more of a case of just like, well, I'm not gonna go buy a gaming laptop because who wants to lug that thing around?

I'm not insane. But maybe there's more of a window for me like, I'm gonna get on the hotel internet and play some more Tunic or something like that. Like, I think that. In a world where hotel internet is any good.

And this is gonna be broadcast in select IMAX theaters across the US, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Connection unknown. Connection very known. Jeff Keighley's father has been with the IMAX corporation and I believe his mother has been with the IMAX corporation since like the 70s. Dave Keighley is like the face of IMAX.

And Data Devs, the kind of ongoing, I guess who is like IMAX did and Double Fine, largely responsible for the Data Devs, right? There will be a Data Devs stream after the kind of kickoff stream.

I've forgotten what had been shown at this thing last year. Polygon has a better memory than I do. Last year at the kickoff thing, they showed the first gameplay of Elden Ring. They showed, they announced Death Stranding Director's Cut.

I want to say where, where, you know, that, that true sort of merging has not, uh, from a, from, I guess, from like an audience perspective has happened, but sooner or later, all that stuff is going to get swallowed up by the big, bad, uh, Xbox name. Um, there's a, you know, there's been quite a lot of Xbox news over the last week here. The other big thing going on is a very large outage of Xbox services that basically threw up when you tried to launch a game for a lot of people. They just got a note saying you need to be online to play this game. Um, this was the last thing into Monday.

I'm trying to find if it has been completely fixed yet or not. but the last thing they did say according to video games Chronicle was that there would be an update in the coming days. And so I don't know if this is something that has been fully resolved just yet. Uh, but this has been a fairly widespread thing.

Um, I did not personally run into it, but also the only thing I've played that would hit an Xbox server over the last four days, I think is the PC version of Halo. And I was able to play that. I did get logged out once now that I think about it. Maybe that's why Matthew Rory couldn't find that one game.

That's true. Yeah. Maybe it was just broken on. Um, this has brought into light a lot of things about the way Microsoft handles, uh, your ability to launch a game.

Um, versus us. Yeah. Like, do you own it? What's your home Xbox?

What's, do you need to log in to be able to launch this game? I think game pass. I don't know if game pad, but I want to say you have to be online to play game pass games, but I don't know that for sure. If that's any different than games you've purchased.

But, uh, yeah, this is a pretty big reminder of like, this stuff is still a disaster. It's just not one that rears its head very often. Um, and you know, some people have taken to talk about the PlayStation side of things where a lot of those games will just launch in an offline state. Um, but the PlayStation ecosystem does still have the concept of like your primary console and your secondary console and you need to be logged in if you're like they have the ability to shut off your ability to play video games.

Uh, pretty much at any point. Um, and that sucks. Like I said, I don't know. It's in their best business interest to have it be that way.

Yeah. Yes. Yeah. rather than have a situation where two people might be playing the same game at the same time, God forbid.

Terrible. If you want to do that kind of shady stuff. Um, but you can do it. Uh, anyway, I think this is still ongoing.

Um, I haven't seen anything that says, yes, this has been totally resolved. They did issue a statement over the weekend. We're like, all right, we put out a patch and it's fixed. And then like, Oh wait, nope, it's not nuts.

We are still working on it. Uh, and it is a lot of users in Europe. So maybe, maybe here in the States, we just haven't seen much of that. I don't know.

Have you seen anyone talking about this? I've seen a handful of people referring to it, but it's mostly just been a, a new story. And so I might just be a largely a European thing. Yeah.

Um, I don't believe that they confirmed a publisher's involvement, but the fightful select story, um, that they put up behind a paywall seem to imply that THQ Nordic has some involvement here. I can't remember if we talked about that last week when we talked about this stuff, but we did, we did. Okay. The thing I thought about was like, Oh, right.

THQ, the name that was on no mercy of the game. They're desperately trying to every time they talk about this game, I can see them very much. Like let's get them to distribute it. Even though it's not the same company at all.

Um, but yeah, I don't know. That's not official, but maybe they will end up being like acting as a publisher or distributor for physical versions or whatever ends up happening there. We'll, we'll wait and see this video. People seem warm.

Yeah. Anyway, that game will be out October 25th. The new news is that they are dropping PlayStation 4 and Xbox One from the list of supported platforms. And they're saying, please note to provide players with the best possible gameplay experience, the game will release on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and will not be available for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles.

in a lot of bad ways, if we have to support these things, whatever it was. I am, this seems like the sort of things should matter. But when I hear this, I'm like, yay! Yeah!
