Gifts and Callings (Part 9)
from The Truth Church
Bishop Riggen teaches from Romans 11:29 and Ephesians 4:11 on the gifts and callings of God, emphasizing that ministry offices are gifts to the church for perfecting the saints. He clarifies that 'perfecting' in scripture means spiritual maturity and completeness according to one's spiritual age, not flawlessness. The bishop argues that pastors and teachers are likely the same office, as both Timothy and Titus are instructed that a pastor must be 'apt to teach.' He warns that many today claiming the title of pastor lack this teaching ability, contributing to doctrinal instability in the church. Teaching, he asserts, is essential for preserving sound doctrine and refuting error. Bishop Riggen distinguishes between the offices: apostles start new works attested by miracles; prophets speak God's word beforehand; evangelists focus on reaching the lost; and pastors are primarily teachers who instruct, exhort, and convince gainsayers. He stresses that only the pastoral office has extensive biblical qualifications in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, underscoring its unique importance to the believer's spiritual life. The preacher urges the congregation to download and preserve this teaching for future reference, as it will be compiled into a book. He emphasizes accountability, noting that any pastor must be measured by these qualifications, and calls the church to prioritize midweek services and spiritual preparation for the imminent end times.
