Stage 8 delivered one of the best breakaway battles of this Giro, as Jhonatan Narváez powered to his second stage win of the race with a solo attack into Fermo. After a chaotic fight for the break and an average speed over 50kph early on, Narváez, teammate Mikkel Bjerg and Andreas Leknessund finally made the decisive move.Bjerg did huge work all day before UAE launched their one-two move on the Capodarco climb. Narváez attacked with 10km to go, dropped Leknessund, and held him off on the brutal cobbled climb into Fermo’s old town.Leknessund finished second after nearly closing the gap on the final wall, while Uno-X teammate Martin Tjøtta won the sprint from the chasing group for third.Behind, the GC riders stayed mostly quiet. Afonso Eulálio kept the maglia rosa, while Jonas Vingegaard and Jai Hindley were alert in the finale, with Hindley taking a tiny two-second gap after the uphill sprint to the line.
