Punto Noticias.- Gissela Chalá, vicealcaldesa de Quito, se refirió en Punto Noticias al Día Internacional de la Mujer Afrodescendiente, que se conmemoró el 25 de julio. Chalá recordó que esa fecha se instauró en 1992, cuando un grupo de mujeres de 32 países de Latinoamérica y el Caribe se autoconvocaron en República Dominicana, para definir estrategias de incidencia política, con el fin de enfrentar el racismo y la discriminación en diversos estamentos de la sociedad. Comentó que a pesar de que han pasado 27 años desde aquella fecha histórica, aún existen las mismas demandas, por lo que la lucha continúa en contra del racismo, la discriminación por género y etnia, que son temas que se han invisibilizado.
