Although on the surface 'sakuga' can seem like a term used to label highly engaging cuts & well-animated fight scenes, there are actually many more layers to it. A large (and sometimes overlooked) component of sakuga is 'character acting'; an for attempt art to imitate life or even transcend the human ability to communicate emotions. In this episode I discuss the importance of character acting and (as always) break down some of my recent favourite examples! On the side, I briefly discuss my experience with The God of High School (2020).

Animators mentioned: Naoko Yamada (referred to as Director in this case), Toshiya Kouno, Hidekazu Ebina, Masayuki Kunihiro, Tetsuya Takeuchi, Keiichro Watanabe, Norio Matsumoto

Anime Discussed: Liz and the Blue Bird (2018), Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 2 (2020), The Garden of Sinners Chapter 2: Murder Speculation Part A (2007), The Garden of Sinners Chapter 5: Paradox Paradigm (2008), The God of High School (2020).
