Gittens Stays at Chelsea Amid Loan Talks | Chelsea F.C. News

Jamie Gittens’ potential loan move to AS Roma has fallen through after Chelsea rejected their initial offer, keeping the young winger in London for now. With another player set to leave on loan, Gittens is Chelsea’s only natural left winger — though manager Xabi Alonso’s preferred 2-attacking-midfield setup limits his game time. He’s mostly been an unused substitute, with only a brief cup appearance, and even when wingers are needed, Morgan Rogers edges him out. Alonso’s fluid positional philosophy could see Gittens shift to wing-back — a role he’s already experimented with in pre-season. After a tough debut season marred by injury and lack of impact, another year on the bench could seriously affect his future at Chelsea.
