Giving Him What He Loves
from Hopewell Associate Reformed Presbyterian · host James Hakim
The true friends of Christ long to hear the voice of His bride. The true bride of Christ gladly gives Him His desire: praise, prayer, and preaching with a voice that is shaped by His. And, the sum of her desire is that He would come quickly for His fruit. The Song of Songs concludes with a profound expression of the church's longing for Christ's return, portraying the bride—now transformed from the wilderness into one who dwells in the gardens—as a people cultivated by God's grace and deeply united with her Bridegroom. The true believer, called a companion, delights in the voice of the church as Christ Himself delights in it, prioritizing and treasuring public worship. Ultimately, the song affirms that the church's deepest longing is not for escape from suffering, but for the hastening of Christ's return, as the Spirit and the bride together declare, 'Even so, come, Lord Jesus.'
