Giving your kid a phone

In their early days, cell phones offered very limited functionality, primarily serving as a means for making calls. In contrast, modern devices provide nearly unlimited access to the digital world, which complicates the decision for parents regarding the appropriate age for a child to receive their first phone. Other countries are banning social media for kids, but would that work here? Is it necessary?
