This season has swung harder between tones than any prior run of the show: we open on a genuine dinosaur-extinction time-travel epic, detour into full-blown horror with a derelict ghost ship, throw the crew a wild bender on a pleasure planet, go full noir behind Klingon lines, turn half the bridge crew into literal puppets, nearly lose the ship to a slipstream malfunction during an off-duty shift, and close out with an omnipotent being trapping everyone in a soap opera to force them to deal with their feelings.
