Gizzi Remembers Reps. Dingell and Jones

from Radio America News · host Radio America

This week, friends and colleagues paid their final respects to two men who left their mark on the House of Representatives: former Michigan Rep. John Dingell and North Carolina Rep. Walter Jones.Dingell is the longest-serving member of Congress in American history, holding his Dearborn-based seat for nearly 60 years. He proved to be one of the most powerful lawmakers in Washington for decades while leading the House Energy and Commerce Committee.Jones was first elected as part of the 1994 Republican Revolution. A staunch conservative on virtually all issues, Jones later clashed with party leaders over the war in Iraq and frequently opposed deficit-laden spending bills and even the 2017 Trump tax cuts when he feared they would add to the nation's mounting debt.Newsmax Chief Political Correspondent and White House Correspondent John Gizzi reflects upon the legacies of these two memorable lawmakers and his own personal friendships with them.
