Glacial Collapse Floods Himalayas | US News

A catastrophic glacial collapse unleashed a wall of water and mud across the Nepal-China border, killing at least 353 people and leaving over 1,300 missing. Entire villages were erased, bridges vanished, and roads turned to rubble—blocking rescue routes in one of the world’s most treacherous regions. Survivors recount terror as floodwaters swallowed everything, while families wait in agony for word of loved ones, including foreign visitors and pilgrims. Amid rising fears of a deadly barrier lake, international aid—including $2 million from the UN—is pouring in as Nepal and China mobilize helicopters, troops, and top officials to save lives and deliver emergency care. This disaster underscores how climate-driven glacier melt is turning once-remote mountain communities into high-risk zones.
