Gleyber Torres Returns to Action

Gleyber Torres is back on the field after a month-long oblique layoff, starting rehab with Triple-A Toledo — batting leadoff and playing second base — as the Tigers cautiously rebuild his timing and confidence. Manager A.J. Hinch emphasized the focus is on regaining baseball rhythm, not rushing him back. Meanwhile, outfielder Kerry Carpenter, rehabbing a shoulder, could return as early as Monday. Torres, who last played May 2 and was hitting .259 with two homers, now needs to prove he’s fully healthy and in sync before rejoining the big club — with no set timeline yet.
