In this podcast episode, we speak to Michelle Howie, a global shaper advocate and aspiring sustainable technologist.Michelle grew up in Adelaide and has family in South Australia dating all the way back to the 1830s. However, while studying engineering here at university, she won one of the federal government’s New Colombo Plan Scholarships and spent 18 months in Korea and Hong Kong. On her return, she was successful in obtain a role, setting up Telstra’s 5G Innovation Centre on the Gold Coast. There were plans to move to Melbourne, however when COVID hit, she decided to return to Adelaide.Her latest international role included a 6 month contract with the World Economic Forum in 2022, which convened a diverse group of stakeholders to address the systemic barriers to scaling technology to meet the 2030 Sustainable Development goals. Michelle is happily back in Adelaide, on a career back, working on her passions which include empowering youth in South Australia to level up her contribution to society and advocating for the sustainable practices we do in our state, such as the plastic bag ban and reducing our net zero emissions. Michelle is excited for her future here in South Australia, promoting the wonderful place we live and work in.
