Global Ultra-Endurance Athlete - Charlie Engle - Episode 51

from The Rise Again Podcast · host Peter K Raisanen

Charlie Engle is an endurance athletic legend. Just Google him.   Charlie was catapulted onto the world's stage after his incredible athletic ability was revealed in the film, Running the Sahara, narrated by Matt Damon. The documentary highlighted his historic, record-setting journey across the world's largest desert, running more than two marathons a day for 111 consecutive days, for a total of 4,500 miles.   Charlie's memoir, Running Man, became a bestseller shortly after it was published in 2016, for good reason! In Running Man, Charlie Engle tells the gripping, surprising, funny, emotional, and inspiring story of his life, detailing his setbacks and struggles - from coping with addiction to serving time in prison - and how he blazed a path to freedom by putting one foot in front of the other. This is a propulsive, raw, and triumphant story about finding the threshold of human endurance - and transcending it. After a decade-long addiction to crack cocaine and alcohol, Charlie Engle hit bottom with a near-fatal six-day binge that ended in a hail of bullets. As Engle got sober on July 23, 1992.   Charlie turned to running, which became his lifeline, his pastime, and his salvation. He began with marathons, and when marathons weren't far enough he began to take on ultramarathons, races that went for 35, 50, and sometimes hundreds of miles, traveling to some of the most unforgiving places on earth to race. He credits a large part of his recovery to the purposeful devotion and emotional release he experiences while running.   Charlie is a dynamic speaker who has enthralled audiences around the world, from keynotes at the Boston Marathon and Google to the National Geographic Society, NATO, the United Nations and the deck of a nuclear-class U.S. Naval aircraft carrier.   One of the most inspiring individuals I have ever had the privilege of meeting and connecting with, I want nothing more than to share this conversation with you all.   If you loved Charlie, reach out to him and tell him how awesome he is and what an inspiration he is.   I encourage you to give the podcast a great rating and share it with at least three people!   Links: http://www.charlieengle.com/ Connect with Charlie: http://www.charlieengle.com/connect See more about Charlie: http://www.charlieengle.com/featured-articles   Resilience podcast episodes: https://lifedocaz.com/the-process-is-the-journey-marcus-clark-episode-30/ https://lifedocaz.com/from-gang-banger-felon-and-3-5-years-in-solitary-confinement-to-motivational-speaker-coach-and-author-ghazi-muhammad-episode-18/ https://lifedocaz.com/marion-weinzweig-holocaust-survivor-episode-11/ https://lifedocaz.com/estil-wallace-from-addiction-to-founder-and-ceo-of-a-world-class-recovery-center-episode-4/ LifeDoc reads: https://lifedocaz.com/ https://lifedocaz.com/taking-back-responsibility/
