Globetrottin' ADs - S2E5 - Dan Schuster & NFHS Learning Center

Matt and Nick stay across the pond in episode 5 as they welcome Dan Schuster who is the Director of Educational Services for the NFHS. The National Federation of State High School Associations is the national leader and advocate for high school athletics as well as fine and performing arts programs in the United States. NFHS is also the leader in online education for the interscholastic community through its Learning Center. Dan talks about the growth of the NFHS Learning Center since its groundbreaking introduction to online education to where it is now offering courses and videos for Coaches, Parents, Administrators, Officials and Students. The center is also not just for co-curricular activities as there is a suit of courses called ‘learning pro’ that are for any students. One of the latest initiatives is a recognition program for schools called the Honor Roll. Nick talks about his desire to have AIS Vienna be included in the Honor Roll and how very close they are. This led the discussion to international schools, what the NFHS has in store for this growing market and how little many international schools require of their coaches. The NFHS is also a joint partner with the NIAAA for their National Conference, the NADC. Dan talks about how the move to an online conference could be a major long term benefit for everyone involved, including the international school Athletic Director and Coach. Wrapping up with a bit of fun Nick brings up one of his childhood passions, Wiffle Ball and asks Dan what its like to be a Hall of Famer and World Champion in a sport that is definitely harder than it looks.
