We slow down over Paul’s words and treat them like courtroom language: “having been justified by faith.” That’s not an ongoing negotiation with God or a spiritual probation period. We talk about justification as a finished verdict based on the imputed righteousness of Christ, and why that makes the believer’s standing stable even when life and feelings are not.From there we follow Paul’s first outcome: peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We make a clear distinction between a subjective sense of calm and the objective reality of reconciliation, where the enmity caused by sin is removed by Christ’s mediation.
