Go In This Thy Might…A Look
At Gideon's Life. The angel of the LORD came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. When the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon, he said, “The LORD is with you, mighty warrior.” (Judges 6:11-12) When a people or an individual is under judgement, many things become inconvenient. He felt the burden, lived the hardship, the people’s travail was heavy. Gideon felt very inadequate, the troubles of the land were many, and what could he, one solitary man from the backwoods of nowhere do in the face of such oppression? God knowing that He had the heart of a deliverer chose Gideon as the man of the hour. You wonder how I know; Gideon knew their history, understood that God was awesome in the lives of His people and knew that for them to be going through such hard times could only mean one thing. God had turned His back on them. He knew it was not a God problem. It was a sin issue. The Angel startled him called him mighty despite his low self-esteem. What matters is how God chooses to define us not how we see ourselves or how man describes us. When we empty ourselves, we make room for God to fill us and then pour us out to our world. And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites. And the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee? And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house. And the Lord said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man (Judges 6:12-16) God reassured Gideon a couple of times until he gathered enough strength to do Gods bidding. God gave Gideon a winning strategy and the enemy is defeated. And it came to pass the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Take thy father's young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it: And build an altar unto the Lord thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down. (Judges 6:25-26) We must deal with sin and all its paraphernalia around us, embrace God, and the desired change would come. Read the rest of the story in Judges 6 and 7 As for us, we must continuously ensure that our world is not engulfed in sin. We must take a stand for God, and we would see the change that we desire in our time. amazon.com/anneajadi anneajadinspirations.com Instagram/arnajadi Twitter/arnajadi Facebook/anneajadi Youtube/anneajadi BOOKS BY Anne Ajadi: YOU WILL MARRY WELL GODS LADY IN WAITING WALK WITH ME IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF JESUS STRENGTH FOR THE JOURNEY HEART MATTERS, LIFE MATTERS
