God Can Handle Your Grief: An Invitation to Lament | Tim Geiger

What do we do about our grief, sorrow, and pain? In this message from the Invitations From God in the Psalms series, we look at Psalms 42 and 43 and God’s invitation to lament. These psalms give language to the experience of feeling spiritually dry, emotionally overwhelmed, and far from the comfort of God’s presence. Biblical lament is not faithlessness. It is faith bringing grief, confusion, anger, loneliness, anxiety, and pain honestly before God. The psalmist cries out from a place of deep need, asks hard questions, remembers God’s faithfulness, and repeatedly speaks hope to his own soul: “Hope in God, for I shall again praise him.” This sermon explores why lament is a sign of faith, how lament helps us know God better, and how lament helps us understand our own hearts more honestly.
