God Is Light

John's message is that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. Scripture uses light for God's life and salvation: in your light do we see light. John exposes false claims: to say we have fellowship with God while walking in darkness, or to say we have no sin, is self-deception. If believers walk in the light, they have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus cleanses them from all sin. Jesus Christ is the propitiation for the sins of the whole world and the light of the world.
