God is Love - Part One
from A. W. Pink on Eternal Security on SermonAudio Hosted by Jon Cardwell
GOD IS LOVE It is not simply that God “loves,” but that He is Love itself. Love is not merely one of His attributes, but His very nature. —A. W. Pink, The Attributes of God The words “God is love” mean that love is an essential attribute of God. Love is something true of God but it is not God. It expresses the way God is in His unitary being, as do the words holiness, justice, faithfulness and truth. Because God is immutable He always acts like Himself, and because He is a unity He never suspends one of His attributes in order to exercise another. —A. W. Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy THE LOVE OF GOD A. Scriptural Refs: Gen 22:2; Jer 31:3; John 3:16; 1 Jn 4:8 “God is love and God is sovereign. His love disposes Him to desire our everlasting welfare and His sovereignty enables Him to secure it.” —Tozer, Knowledge of the Holy Strong's Exhaustive Concordance אהב (ahav) A primitive root; to have affection for (sexually or otherwise): - (be-) love (-d, -ly, -r), like, friend. אהבה (ahavah) Feminine of H158 and meaning the same: - love. αγαπαω (agapao) Perhaps from ἄγαν agan (much; or compare [H5689]); to love (in a social or moral sense): - (be-) love (-ed).
