God Is Speaking—Are You Refusing Him?

God has spoken through His Son, and when God speaks, He expects a response. In this message from Hebrews 12:25–29, we are warned not to refuse the One who speaks. Christianity is not merely based on something God said long ago. Jesus Christ is God’s final and living revelation, and believers are responsible for how they respond to His Word. First, we must listen to the One who speaks. Many people want a vibrant relationship with God but do not carefully listen to His Word or obey what He has already said. Hearing God requires more than simply possessing ears. We must actively receive, study, and respond to the words of Jesus. Second, we must trust the One who speaks when everything is shaken. Hebrews promises that another great shaking is coming in which everything temporary will be removed. Governments, economies, ministries, careers, relationships, wealth, and possessions can all be shaken. When those things become our foundation, their instability shakes us as well. God does not always allow shaking to destroy our faith. Sometimes He uses it to reveal where our faith has actually been placed. Jesus Christ, His sacrifice, His promises, His covenant, and His kingdom remain completely unshakable. Third, we must be thankful to the One who speaks. Those who have received grace should become grateful people. When Christians forget what God has done, they begin living as though this temporary world is all that exists. Gratitude produces peace, contentment, generosity, service, and worship. Finally, we must fear and worship the One who speaks. Our God is a consuming fire. His holiness has not diminished because we have received access to Him through Jesus. We should approach Him with both confidence and reverence, daily consecrating our lives, worshiping Him for His goodness, and preparing our hearts to receive His Word. One day, every earthly kingdom, economy, nation, possession, and accomplishment will be shaken. Only the kingdom of God will remain—and through Jesus Christ, believers are receiving that kingdom right now. Do not refuse Him who speaks. Listen to Him. Trust Him. Thank Him. Worship Him.
