Godly Anger

from Christ Community Church of Pembroke Pines · host Christ Community Church

The Servant of God “Godly Anger” Ma. 11:15-19 Anger Directed in Discipline (vv.15-16) 7 You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said: 8 “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; 9 in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’” Matt. 15:7-9 Think about this, by clearing out the traders Jesus literally and symbolically provided a place for Gentiles in the temple of God, although reforming the temple was not the main thing. He really was not just cleansing or cleaning up the temple. 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. (Jo. 4:21,23). Anger Directed in Correction (v.17) Anger Displayed in Jealousy (vv.18-19) 4 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you?  2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. 4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. (Ja. 4:1-4). 21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire. (Matt. 5:21-22). There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, 19 a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers. (Pro. 6:16-19). Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger Eph. 4:26 4 Facts about Godly Anger: God/Jesus is angry for the right reasons- not petty arguments. No selfishness involved (Ro. 12:19). God’s anger targets sinful behavior and true injustice (3:7; Pro. 24:11-12, Eph. 5). God’s anger/wrath is perfectly controlled (meekness). Jesus’ anger and response was always to accomplish God’s will. 19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Ja. 1:19-20 Anger Displayed in Jealousy (v.19)
