They ask Jesus a question that they believe will trap Jesus and discredit Him. Rather than answer, Jesus responds with a question to them. If they are able to answer Jesus' question, Jesus says He will answer their question. Because of the lack of response by the religious leaders to Jesus question, He refuses to answer theirs.
