"God’s Timing"

from "Prayer Changes Everything" Devotion for Today · host Y.E.S. Jesus Youth Encountering Savior Jesus

November 26, 2024 Daily Devotion: "God’s Timing" Daniel 6:10   New Living Translation 10 But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God. The men who had set the trap for Daniel knew he would fall into it. They caught him red-handed and wasted no time in telling the king. Darius was heartbroken. He tried to find a way to rescue Daniel, but the law he had made couldn't be repealed. It was totally binding even for the king. They had Daniel cornered and forced Darius's hand. Darius knew Daniel well. He knew Daniel continuously served God. Darius also seemed to be aware of God's power, perhaps from Daniel or maybe he heard what happened to Belshazzar. While Darius did not know the outcome, he seemed to believe that Daniel's God was able to rescue him. He tried to console Daniel by sharing this belief with him. Darius had an anxious night. He couldn't eat. He couldn't sleep. He did not want to send Daniel to his death. He hoped for a miracle even though it was a vague and wishful hope to be elevated. There are people who try to bring others down to elevate themselves. As Christians, we need to remember that we have been called out of this kind of behavior and should behave very differently to those who don't know God. We are called to live faithfully and seek the good of the place we are working in because we are the children of the living God. This story is so familiar to many of us. We are pausing here on purpose. It was a long night of waiting for Darius. We oftentimes find ourselves in nights or seasons of waiting. Some working environments can be tough. Though we may never be thrown into a lion's den, there can be backstabbing, gossiping, and a general seeking to bring others down in order to be elevated. There are prayers are answered "yes" or "no" immediately by God. At other times, He says “wait.” It can be difficult to wait, but God's timing is perfect. He is with us in the waiting. Ask Him to grow patience in you as well as trust and dependence on Him.
